It works just fine in the southern hemisphere. It does not work at the equator because there is no rotation of the earth about the axis of the Pendulum at the equator. So, you DIDNT watch the entire video.

Homemade ones provide inconsistent results. And in the end, nobody can realistically afirm this is caused by rotation
